Born on this day, Ned Jarrett, a two-time champion in NASCAR’s premier series, was born. Jarrett, known as “Gentleman Ned” for his relaxed nature off the track, won 50 races over his 13-year career and was named one of NASCAR’s 50 greatest drivers in 1998. Jarrett retired from driving at the age of 34 but enjoyed a decades-long second career as a popular broadcaster. He was enshrined in the second class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011.
