Sir Richard Branson set a new world record for the fastest crossing of the English Channel by an amphibious motor car. Using a Gibbs Aquada he completed the crossing in 1 hour 40 minutes 6 seconds, eclipsing the previous fastest-recorded crossing time of 6 hours. The Virgin Group chief made the Dover to Calais journey as part of celebrations to mark the twentieth anniversary of Virgin Atlantic.
